One of the more challenging projects on MSD's resume, Farmington Ave Water Main Replacement consisted of the removal and replacement of a 20" cast iron water main with approximately 3,800 LF of 24" DIP. This project was performed on a active road with multiple road crossings and services making traffic control a crucial part of the project. During construction many unforeseen obstacles were encountered including duct banks and abandoned drainage lines but the project was finished on schedule and within budget.
Reggio Magnet School for the Arts was the first of many projects working with the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC). The project consisted of the brand new construction of a 47,000 SF building, installation of storm drainage, water and sewer lines, sidewalks, parking lots a new athletic field and road widening. The project won the 2014 CT ABC Excellence in Construction Team Award with the General Contractor Newfield, Construction.
Camp Hartell CSMS project included the construction of a new 112,000SF maintenance building for the CT National Guard. To tackle this project we first had to demolish a 17 acre site utilizing the onsite materials to build the foundation meeting LEED requirements. We worked diligently with the Cast in Place Concrete contractor to deliver the building slab and keep the project on schedule. We installed 2,000 LF of DIP, 6,000 LF of drainage, and 2,000 LF of sanitary piping. Overall the project was finished on time and under budget.
This project was one of the most unique projects MSD has ever had the honor to be a part of. The project consisted of the demolition of an existing office building down to the steel structure and adding several additions for the new state-of-the-art academy. The project also consisted of the typical utilities, flatwork, as well as several retaining walls one being almost 40' high. The site design of the school is based off of Bradley International Airport with the layout of the flatwork resembling the runways. Overall the project was challenging but the experience of MSD gave us the upper hand to complete the educational facility.
